Anytime now, I’ll officially be an Auntie. In a few hours Rigaux/Rigo Matteo (I vote for Rigo, though my brother is all for the more complicated, French Rigaux), my younger brother’s firstborn will be greeting this world all pink-faced and slimy. Not that I’ll be around during the delivery, but you know how new born babies are when they gasp for air for the very first time: faces all crunched up, fists closed tightly, their toothless mouths a gaping hole. At least that’s how I see them on TV and in pictures and on YouTube.

But I bet Matteo is going to be really, really, handsome. And smart. And charming. And a future heart breaker. (See, I’m taking this “Auntie” role very, very seriously.) I can’t wait to read stories to him, show him his first constellation, or give him my first lecture on how to treat girls properly. And how to break their hearts ever so gently, smartly, so that they end up thanking him in the end.

For Matteo, my love, I have these wishes for you:

1. That you will be blessed with excellent health and grow up to be a smart, precocious little boy.

2. That you will choose a sport and strive to be good at it.

3. That you will be excellent both in Math and in English.

4. That you will love books.

5. That you will follow your heart and your dreams and your happiness.

6. That you will respect and love your Mom and Dad at all times.

7. That you will be a responsible, loving sibling, son, friend, boyfriend, husband, citizen, colleague, team player.

8. That you will allow your Auntie Ai and Auntie Tics to spoil you, without making you rotten.

9. That you will know God and understand your faith and discover that in the end, only love and kindness really matter.

I love you, Matteo. I hope WordPress will still be around 18 or 20 years from now so you can read this post, written on the eve of your birthday.

🙂

Happy birthday, sweetie.

Update:

My brother has decided on Rigaux. Oh, well. The parent always gets to have the last say. :-p

On that note, Merry Christmas everyone!

May we always remember the child who was born in a manger in Bethlehem, who grew up to preach us about love, peace and forgiveness, and gave the world salvation.

May your Holidays be filled with love, laughter, and peace of heart. 🙂

August Rush September 16, 2010

My August for this year had been so full that for this September I am willingly resigning myself to some domesticity. Except for the regular Thursday meetings with church friends (who are so crazily fun to be with you would not think church people are like that, at all), weekly trips to Watson’s for some essentials, and Fridays spent with the besties over coffee and chitchat, I will be spending most of my free days indoors. August has stripped my wallet dry as well, so for now staying put is the only viable option. :p

So this is how my August had been.

don't you just love those smiles!

that's the attorney with her magazine... flipping through wedding ideas!

Aug 6. Should have watched Sarah Geronimo in concert at the Atrium, but my besties decided to go with other plans. So we ended up talking non-stop at some mall coffee kiosk, had grilled chicken and some soup for dinner, and treated ourselves to some dreamy gelato at Missy Bon Bon, where we also took as many snaps as we could, and talked about weddings and proposals, and the fact that one of my besties is expecting one within the month. Hence the fixation with the Weddings mag. 🙂

boating before breakfast

the old pier at daytime

Aug 7. Traveled to Lanao Del Norte, some 3 hours away from my home in Cagayan de Oro to visit my cousins. Rode the bus with Mom, my sister, my cousin J, Mom’s friend, Tita A, and her young daughter. Went boating at early morning (lovely!), and on our first night, we walked with our cousins to an old village pier and watched the gazillion stars (lovelier!) until we were all drowsy from all the talk and laughter. We also visited two waterfalls, went swimming, and had our pictures taken a thousand times.

oh Candy's how we love thee!

the photobooth souvenir. yee-ha!

Aug 21.  Dinner and coffee with my best buddies from my ex-office. Nashy and Candice were home for the weekend, and I had no problem convincing Ella to come home as well (thank you understanding hubby! :p). Another Ella was there too, so it was one big, raucous get-together, with some happy news (shhh!) on the side. Dinner at our favorite Candy’s and then coffee at Coffeeworks, where we went ga-ga over the photobooth, wigs, weird sunglasses, hats, and all! See crazy photos for reference.

some REALLY close-up snaps at the birthday/engagement party

So. it will just be Estee and myself, once Sora gets hitched. and Marshie too, who'll be home from New Zealand in time for the wedding. Yay!

Aug 25. Finally, one of my best friends got engaged on her birthday! Sora, the feisty, fashion-forward attorney who’s been my best friend since high school freshman year finally got the rock on the eve of her birthday, after seven years of a drama-filled but nevertheless admirable relationship with her lawyer better-half. What else can I say? I’ve been anticipating this proposal as if it were my own and now that it’s here, I’m just elated! Excited for the exclusive house party/ engagement party, the bridal shower, the pre nup pictorials (which I heard will be shot on location at Impasugong, Bukidnon, weee!), and of course the dreamy, dreamy, big day.

Love, love. “Without love, our world is a tomb.”

happy birthday, congratulations, and best wishes Atty! Love, love!

~~~~~~~
So, so so! We turned out to be right! My best friend in the whole wide universe who is also celebrating her birthday today got engaged last night. After seven years, she finally got the rock! Well, before we start thinking about the bridal shower and the stress that usually comes with wedding preparations, there is a birthday party/engagement party to be enjoyed later at the Philtown Hotel, so it’s going to be easy breezy for a while.
Plus I’m thinking of having our very own engagement party at the house, just us, besties, minus M of course, who is in New Zealand and won’t be coming home until May (in time for the wedding, I hope, fingers crossed!) of next year. Well there’s also F, one of our high school BFFs whom we’ve seen only this May after 8 years or so, and is now back in New York. Back to the house party. We’ve been planning on homemade cheesy-beefy lasagna, my famous strawberry-banana float (my personal fave :-)), and some nacho chips with sweet corn salsa. Perhaps, some margaritas too!
With the way I’ve been jumping up and down last night, you’d think I was the one who got engaged. But no, not anytime soon, I think I still haven’t gotten over how wonderful being single and independent actually is. But I’ve always been a sucker for sappy engagements and happily-ever-afters, especially with friends whose love stories and love dramas I got to hear over and over again, so I guess my jumping-up-and-down-excitement is pretty excusable.
Love, love. Nothing is more magical. 🙂
